Beschreibung

The route follows the well-maintained hiking path of mule track no. 30 of Via Valtellina up to San Romerio. Behind the Poschiavo hospital, a gentle ascent begins on farm roads, which then becomes noticeably steeper on hiking trails with roots and stones. Among the trees, there is a view of Lake Poschiavo and the mountains opposite, which form the border with Italy.

After the highest point at 1,848 meters above sea level, the trail gently runs over a soft ground of conifers to the hamlet of San Romerio. At the edge of the forest, the view suddenly opens onto the lower Valposchiavo and the nearby Valtellina. A glance back offers a unique panorama toward the Bernina Pass.

At the San Romerio Refreshment Point, one can refresh with drinks and local food before tackling the steep descent through fir and larch woods. The forestry workers have done an excellent job restoring the trail, destroyed by storm damage, with a new route, partly very steep. Here it is important to maintain maximum concentration, since roots and stones are hidden under the foliage, especially in spring and autumn.

Once reaching the valley floor, the return to Poschiavo follows the lake shore and then the Poschiavino river along route no. 33 Via Albula/Bernina. Those who are not afraid of cold water can take a refreshing dip at Le Prese as a reward.
