Via Panoramica Bolada Trek in Calanca valley

Starting from Santa Maria, home to the main church of the valley, already mentioned in 1219. From the tower, there is an exceptional panoramic view: from Monte Ceneri to the middle Mesolcina, up to the coniferous forests of Castaneda and Santa Maria.

The well-marked path leads to Monti Bald and, at an altitude of 1,200 m above sea level, immerses us for the first time in the dense forest of larches and firs. It crosses areas where mature forests alternate with young natural reforestations. On the right lies the Scignan plain, rich in moorland, and the highest point of the hike is reached at 1,674 m above sea level, near the Chapel of Sant'Antonio de Bolada. Built in 1620 and recently rebuilt with great effort, it offers a spectacular view over the Calanca valley, up to the Zapport massif.

The descent towards Braggio unfolds through a wild and intact landscape. Braggio, a traffic-free mountain village, can only be reached on foot or by cable car. Characterized by well-preserved historic houses, a small shop, and cared-for pastures, the village is an authentic and evocative stop. The path then continues through the forest, crossing several alpine meadows until Montdent, where a carriage road crossing the impressive Auriglia gorge is encountered.

From here, the descent to Selma begins in the alpine pasture of Cauco, in the locality of Bersach. Worth visiting are the parish church of Selma, dedicated to Saints James and Peter, and the characteristic agricultural landscapes of the area.
