Beschreibung
The well-preserved Zalön huts with their shingle roofs bear witness to traditional agriculture, which the Walser were able to preserve until the middle of the 20th century. In addition to their inhabited farm on the village level, each family ran a single alpine dairy on the alpine level. This consisted of three units, the alpine dairy (hut), the bedroom (Stupli) and the stable barn, where the cows spent the night and were milked twice a day. In the hay room of these barns, only hay was stored to bridge periods of bad weather. It was therefore only small. The alpine buildings are lined up between alpine meadows and alpine meadows at an altitude of 1800 to 2000 m above sea level.
Until 2020, a private individual dairy was still operated in one of the Zalön huts.
