Beschreibung
The Rotonda and chapel of S. Lucio dates back to the VIII-IX century. and is, together with the church of S. Carpoforo di Mesocco, the oldest ecclesiastical building of Mesolcina. The chapel has two clearly differentiated parts: one, circular in shape, dating back to the time of Charlemagne, between the end of the eighth and the beginning of the ninth century; the other, with a quadrangular plan, probably dating back to the fourteenth century. The original cylindrical structure, in stone with well-preserved plaster, stands on a rock visible even in the most recent body. The structure is surmounted by a conical stone roof and a small bell tower with a bell dating back to the thirteenth century. The internal diameter of 3.10 m suggests that the structure was not used to host religious functions; Traces of altar or baptismal font are also missing. In the years 1980-90 the building was completely restored. During the same were brought to light the frescoes on the sides of the entrance door.
