Beschreibung
In 1894, Giovanni Segantini decided to settle in Maloja. The famous pointillist painter and lover of the alpine landscape was inspired by the enchanting scenery and the special light of this quiet mountain village. One hundred years after his arrival in Maloja, the "Sentiero Segantini" was created. The idea and execution owe Maloja to the Basel photographers Labhard and Galli. This wonderful path is about a two-hour walk with 14 stages following Segantini's tracks. At each stage, display panels provide information about the life and work of the artist.

Wegbeschreibung
The Sentiero begins at the Segantini atelier. From the first station, you can easily reach the "Belvedere Tower." Segantini planned to remodel the former castle and live there with his family. The view from the tower into Bergell is magnificent. The next station is a glacier mill that Segantini chose for the painting "Vanity."
Continuing towards Lake Sils, you pass the summer house of the Giacometti family, where Segantini's friend Giovanni Giacometti partly lived and painted. Another station is located at the parking lot at the beginning of Lake Sils. On a stone, you find two panels with the painting "Spring Pasture" and a painting by Giovanni Giacometti, Segantini's friend. It shows the Palace Hotel and was painted on the way to Blaunca.
Along the lake, continue to the right towards Maloja Palace, where the next panel is located. The imposing building was constructed by the Belgian Count de Renesse. Then you walk back through the village, and in the village center next to a newly built house, there is a panel that should be understood more as a testimonial. Here stood the so-called "American Tavern," a modest stone hut that Segantini integrated into his painting "Decay."
On the way to Salecina, you first pass the place where Segantini painted "Return to the Homeland." Following the small path further, you reach the spot where "Decay" from the triptych was created. On the return way towards the cemetery, you reach a tiny path leading towards "Äla." After about 5 minutes, you face several panels. "My Atelier": here Segantini welcomed art lovers, journalists, and guests. At this point, you can also see how much the vegetation has changed from that time until today. The next station on the Sentiero is the Maloja cemetery. Segantini's grave is in the cemetery. With a view of the Bergell mountains, Segantini painted the picture "Consolation of Faith." Following the path finally towards the lake, you soon see the Chiesa Bianca with the red tower spire. Segantini was laid out in this little church, and Giovanni Giacometti painted the last picture of his dead friend. Here the Sentiero ends. With a view of Piz Duan and the Glacier Horn, one understands Segantini's last words… "I want to see my mountains." The Sentiero and this view you will certainly not forget so quickly.
